SeaLAN Cables for Marine Networks

Friday, October 31, 2008

HARRISBURG, Pa. - Sept. 30, 2008 - A new family of cables from Tyco Electronics offers a low-smoke, zero-halogen (LSZH) design in water-blocked and nonwater-blocked versions that meet rigorous requirements of flammability, smoke emissions, and halogen content. Designed for shipboard Ethernet networks, communications, and combat systems, SeaLAN cables are available in both shielded and unshielded configurations. All SeaLAN cables are fully qualified to MIL-DTL-24643/59 through /61 and are QPL listed.

With a rugged design to withstand the applied forces during installation, the cables meet the electrical requirements of ANSI/TIA 568-B.2 to support Gigabit Ethernet and other high-speed protocols. The water-blocked versions maintain electrical characteristics when subjected to high humidity environments and meet the water-tightness requirements using ASTM D1411 synthetic sea-water. Conductors are stranded or solid 24 AWG and stranded 26 AWG. Shielded cables combine an aluminum foil and braid to achieve excellent shielding effectiveness while maintaining a smaller diameter and flexibility.

MIL-DTL-24643/62 PROFIBUS cables are also available.
